Earnings Disclosure

TL;DR: As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases made through links on this site. Our commission rate is 1-4.5% depending on the product category. This doesn't influence our rankings — we'd recommend the same products if we earned nothing. We don't have relationships with manufacturers.

The Short Version

KI Pills is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. When you click a link on our site and make a purchase on Amazon, we earn a small commission.

This doesn't cost you anything extra. The price you pay on Amazon is the same whether you use our link or go directly to Amazon. We don't add markup, handling fees, or any other charges.

How Much We Earn

Amazon's commission rates vary by product category. For potassium iodide products, the relevant categories and their commission rates are:

Product Category Commission Rate
Health & Personal Care 1.0%
Amazon Pharmacy (if applicable) 1.0%
Other categories (miscellaneous) 4.0–4.5%

Most KI products fall under "Health & Personal Care," which means we earn approximately 1% of the purchase price. On a $15 bottle of iOSAT, that's about 15 cents. On a $50 multi-pack, it's about 50 cents.

These commissions add up across thousands of readers, but they're not enough to get rich from. We operate this site because we believe in the mission, not because it's highly profitable.

Does This Affect Our Recommendations?

No. Our product rankings are determined by our evaluation methodology, not by commission rates. Here's why:

  • All KI products have similar commissions: Whether we recommend iOSAT, ThyroSafe, or a supplement, the commission percentage is essentially the same. There's no financial incentive to pick one over another.
  • We recommend products with no affiliate link: Some products we recommend aren't available on Amazon, or we link to the manufacturer's website directly. We recommend them anyway if they're the right choice.
  • We tell you when NOT to buy: Our guides frequently advise against certain products or approaches — even when those products have affiliate programs. See our warnings about potassium iodate, iodine tinctures, or unnecessary daily KI use.
  • We disclose supplements as supplements: We could make more money by pushing supplement products that have higher margins or better affiliate terms. Instead, we consistently note that FDA-approved products are the CDC's recommended choice.

Put simply: we'd give you the same advice if Amazon didn't have an affiliate program. Our picks are based on what we'd buy for our own families.

Other Affiliate Programs

Currently, Amazon Associates is our only active affiliate program. We have evaluated partnerships with other retailers but have not found any that meet our standards for product authenticity and customer protection.

We do not participate in:

  • Manufacturer direct affiliate programs
  • Supplement store affiliate networks
  • "Deal site" referral programs
  • Any program that requires us to feature specific products

If we add additional affiliate relationships in the future, we'll update this disclosure and note the new programs clearly on relevant pages.

What We Don't Do For Money

To be crystal clear about our independence:

  • No sponsored content: Manufacturers cannot pay us to feature or review their products. We don't publish "native advertising" or paid placements.
  • No free products: We don't accept free samples, review units, or "evaluation products" from manufacturers. We buy everything we review through regular retail channels.
  • No pay-for-ranking: Companies cannot buy their way onto our top picks list. Rankings are determined solely by our evaluation criteria.
  • No exclusive deals: We don't negotiate special coupon codes or exclusive offers that require us to promote specific products.
  • No data selling: We don't sell your email address or browsing data to third parties. Our email list is used only for the purposes stated when you sign up.

Other Revenue

Beyond Amazon commissions, we may explore the following revenue sources in the future:

  • Display advertising: Contextual ads from networks like Google AdSense (we currently don't run these)
  • Digital products: Downloadable guides or checklists for emergency preparedness (not yet offered)
  • Donations: Optional reader support via platforms like Buy Me a Coffee or Patreon (not currently active)

If and when we implement any of these, we'll update this disclosure accordingly.

FTC Compliance Statement

This disclosure complies with the Federal Trade Commission's Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising (16 CFR Part 255). The FTC requires clear disclosure of material connections between advertisers and endorsers. Our affiliate relationship with Amazon constitutes such a material connection.

You should assume that any link to Amazon on this site is an affiliate link, and that we may earn a commission if you make a purchase. This applies to all product links, price check buttons, and "buy now" links throughout the site.
